I need to tie a string around my finger so I don't forget

Ever get that feeling that you know something's missing in your life and you need to figure out what it is? I've been going through that recently. I've got a lot weighing on my mind. I'm reconciling a lot. I'm stressing even more with each reconciled thought. And it finally dawned on me. I haven't prayed in a while. I've been so focused on myself that I haven't prayed to my Maker to calm my heart and trust in His plan for me.

That's a scary feeling. Realizing you forgot about Him. I must have gotten too involved in the "Let go and let God" phrase because I let Him go. Temporarily. I promise. But reading a few other blog posts over the past few days reminded me of what I was forgetting (God, please don't let this be the warning of early stages of Alzheimers... please) and how there is no denial there is a greater force at work. And so, I've prayed. And you know what? My heart feels a little lighter. My situation... well, that's undeniably heavy right now. But this too shall pass, as long as I don't forget who's really handling my bidness.

Weekend Tour Guide

My gal pal Laurel is in town this weekend for her first visit to Boston. I'm super excited to show her around my favorite city (what can I say? I'm a suckah for the ocean and fresh seafood.) On deck is a whale watching tour, sight seeing some of the best locations, eating way too much food and just having a good time.

Oh, and I finished the guest bedroom (at 10 last evening, natch) so photos will come soon, although I'll be exchanging the area rug for a larger size (I can't pick the right size to save my life.)

The Oracle

Do you remember the Oracle in the movie The Matrix? She predicted the emergence of "the one." Well, apparently I'm the Oracle, at least to my friend Dan.

Last week I dreamed about Dan and Simone's engagement announcement, and Dan told me on Saturday that he proposed to Simone! I couldn't be happier for them.

I should point out that never in three years have I dreamed about my engagement, but our wedding? Multiple times now. Hopefully I can hone this new-found Oracle power and predict my engagement.

Weddings on the Brain

Twice this week I've dreamed about engagements and weddings. Earlier I dreamed that one of our friends and his girlfriend got engaged and then Wednesday night I dreamed about my wedding. I don't remember much about the actual dream, but I remember we were outside and I was so happy. Stephen says it's our destination wedding.

I've been thinking a lot about our wedding. I know it will eventually happen and that when the time comes to plan, I will be freaking out trying to figure out where to start and how to make it all happen. I'm trying to get an early start on ideas and preferences by reading wedding blogs, and can I just say that all this wedding stuff is ridiculously expensive? The sticker shock has me reconsidering what On the plus side, I won't have sticker shock when the time comes because I've already been there.

House Repairs

With the warm weather and upcoming visitors, we have furiously been working on the house. More specifically the guest bedroom. We've managed to take down all the wall paper (no easy feat when there were 3 layers) and half the room primed and ready for painting. We'll spend the rest of this week and weekend to finish priming, then painting. The linens are ordered, the area rug is in route and our guest arrives next Friday. Lots to get done in one week but I know we can do it. Photos will come when the finished product is ready for debut.

It Finally Happened

I've been in Boston for 2.5 years now (really? Did I just read that right? It's been that long?) and I make no secret of the fact that people here are HORRIBLE drivers. So it's quite surprising to me that after 2.5 years of driving with crazy people (not to mention snow, ice and the like) someone finally hit my car.

Strike that, a semi truck hit my car. Apparently if you're a truck driver and make a wrong turn on a rotary, you can just back up (regardless of vehicles behind you) to get to the right exit. Even worse? I flagged down the truck driver to let him know he hit me, he pulled over, and when he said he was going to his truck to get his insurance, he drove off. What a jerk.

The good news? I'm ok, my car is ok (just minor damage in the bumper) and I got his license plate. I don't like being negative, but it's such a bummer when people don't take responsibility for their actions.

Summer Reading List

Reading is one of my favorite relaxing activities, and with summertime here I thought I'd share what's currently on deck.
Currently I'm reading "All the Queen's Men the World of Elizabeth I" by Peter Brimacombe. The Tudor period is my favorite and Q.E. I tops my list of most admired (I even named my first car after her.) The non-fiction work covers the important men who served, and were part of the Queen's council. Did you know that famed writer Christopher Marlowe was employed as a spy for the Queen? I know it's a little nerdy, and not a traditional summer read, but sometimes you need something to stimulate and activate the brain, and this is just the type of book to do that for me.

Next on my list is "Blonde Roots" which asks the question: what if history were reversed and white people were enslaved by blacks? It sounds like such an intriguing read and I can't wait to get started. You can read a review here.

Finally, "The Lost Symbol" by famed writer Dan Brown (author of awesome books "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons." I know nothing about the plot of this book, but I LOVED the other two books, so I can't imagine this won't be an exciting read.

So there you have it, the books I'll be reading over the next few month(s). What's on your list this summer?
